Dr. Elbert H. Goodier III, a 75-year-old Caucasian male, was a well-respected urologist in Metairie, Louisiana. He was tragically shot and killed on March 24, 2016, while seeing a patient in his office near East Jefferson General Hospital. The suspected shooter was identified as 73-year-old John P. Thomas, who was also Dr. Goodier's patient. Thomas, who suffered from mental illness, fled the scene but took his own life shortly after at a nearby fast-food restaurant.
