On a Sunday in late January, the life of 25-year-old Rolandreon Marquis Fischer was cut short by gun violence in Shreveport, Louisiana. The fatal shooting occurred on January 29, 2017, in the 6300 block of Hearne Avenue. The incident was part of a violent day in the city that saw multiple shootings.
The subsequent investigation by Shreveport Police detectives led to the identification of a suspect in the killing.
Authorities arrested 21-year-old Jacorey Wesley and charged him with one count of second-degree murder in connection with Fischer's death. The investigation, however, did not end with Wesley's arrest, as further information uncovered the involvement of another individual in the aftermath of the crime.
In a surprising turn of events, the ongoing investigation revealed a connection to a member of the Shreveport Police Department. Officer Lashell Crawford, who had been hired by the department in July of 2016, was placed on departmental leave following allegations of policy violations. Based on evidence gathered in the investigation into Fischer's death, detectives obtained a warrant for her arrest. Crawford, a probationary officer at the time, was charged with a single count of accessory after the fact to second-degree murder. She surrendered to authorities at the Caddo Parish Correctional Center.
