Connie Ann Lassabe McAvoy, a 42-year-old female resident of Metairie, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2018. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a wife and a mother to two sons. She was known for her love of gardening and the beautiful garden she kept at her home. Friends and family also remember her enjoyment of babysitting and spending time with her loved ones.
Initial reports surrounding her death suggested it was a suicide.
However, upon investigation, law enforcement determined that she had been shot in the back, which led them to suspect foul play. The investigation quickly centered on her 21-year-old son, Chad McAvoy. During questioning, he admitted to shooting his mother.
The incident occurred after Connie McAvoy had a verbal disagreement first with her husband and then with her son in his bedroom. As she was leaving his room, Chad McAvoy fired a single shotgun shell into her back, causing her to die at the scene. After his arrest, he was charged with second-degree murder. In a plea agreement, the charge was reduced to manslaughter, and in May 2019, he pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to the maximum of 40 years in prison. During the court proceedings, family members expressed their grief and support for the plea agreement. Chad McAvoy expressed regret for his actions.
