In the quiet community of Metairie, Louisiana, a tragic event unfolded that cut short the life of a young woman. Monica Bates, a 16-year-old female, was fatally shot on Sunday, January 22, 2017. A student at East Jefferson High School, her life was violently ended in a triple homicide.
The incident also claimed the lives of her 25-year-old brother, Malcolm Wallace, and 24-year-old Daneka Lotts, who was identified as Wallace's girlfriend.
The three were discovered shot in front of an apartment building located at 1400 Laurel Street. Bates was found in the back seat of a car that had crashed into a utility pole; she had been shot in the face and died at the scene. Wallace was in the passenger seat and Lotts was the driver; she passed away from her injuries the following day.
The investigation into the homicides led to the arrest of 31-year-old Corey Woods of Metairie. Law enforcement officials reported that Woods was a close friend of Malcolm Wallace and had been with him watching football at his grandmother's apartment on the day of the killings. Woods was already in custody on unrelated parole violation and drug charges when he was booked on three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the shootings.
