Monica Bates, a 16-year-old African American girl, tragically lost her life on January 22, 2017, in Metairie, Louisiana. Monica was a 10th grader at East Jefferson High School and was known for her love of dancing, singing, and joking around with her family and friends. She was the daughter of Cabrina Wallace Bates and the late Michael Pernell Bates.
