On the night of May 18, 2018, Melissa Daous, 43, a woman from Marrero, Louisiana, was caught in a sudden burst of violence that began as something almost ordinary: a dispute over property. Investigators said she and her boyfriend, Christopher Pike, went to a home in the 7800 block of Barataria Boulevard to try to resolve the disagreement.

Inside that house, the tension spiked fast. Authorities reported that an argument erupted and Pike opened fire, fatally shooting the homeowner, Tonia D ...
