On the night of May 18, 2018, Melissa Daous, 43, a woman from Marrero, Louisiana, was caught in a sudden burst of violence that began as something almost ordinary: a dispute over property. Investigators said she and her boyfriend, Christopher Pike, went to a home in the 7800 block of Barataria Boulevard to try to resolve the disagreement.
Inside that house, the tension spiked fast.
Authorities reported that an argument erupted and Pike opened fire, fatally shooting the homeowner, Tonia Dardar, and then shooting Daous as well. In the span of moments, what had been framed as an attempt to settle a “minor property dispute” turned into a deadly scene with two women down.
The bloodshed did not end with the first gunshots. According to statements attributed to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, Dardar’s husband returned to the residence after the shootings, encountered Pike, and exchanged gunfire with him. Pike was wounded during that exchange and died at the scene, leaving three people dead by the end of the night.
Because the suspected shooter, Pike, also died at the scene, there was no later arrest of a living suspect in connection with Daous’s death reflected in the available reporting. The incident was treated as a homicide investigation centered on Pike’s actions during the dispute, followed by the fatal exchange of gunfire that ended his life as well.
