In the early morning hours of a January day in Eunice, Louisiana, a young man's life was tragically cut short. Oshae Isaiah Doffney, a 23-year-old male from the nearby town of Elton, was shot and killed on January 21, 2019. The incident unfolded in the 1600 block of West Vine Avenue, where Doffney had driven with at least one passenger. As he was getting out of his vehicle, he was struck by gunfire.

ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Initial reports from witnesses at the scene described a dark-colored vehicle fleeing after the shots were fired, leaving investigators with an immediate but vague lead in their search for who was responsible for this sudden act of violence.
The investigation into Doffney's death quickly led to an arrest. The following day, Eunice Police took 19-year-old Daricko Stevens into custody. In a surprising turn of events, it was revealed that Stevens and Doffney were friends. The shooting, according to the police chief, occurred while the two were together inside Doffney's vehicle. Stevens was subsequently charged with manslaughter and obstruction of justice in connection with the death of his friend.
