In the early morning hours of April 8, 2024, a barrage of gunfire shattered the peace at a residence on Highway 757 in Eunice, Louisiana. When authorities arrived around 5 a.m., they discovered a tragic scene inside. Roy 'Tray' Guillory Jr., a 19-year-old Black male, was found deceased, the victim of fatal gunshot wounds. The violence of the act was evident, as investigators noted that over 40 shots had been fired at the home.
Alongside Guillory, a dog was also found shot and killed.
The St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office immediately launched an investigation into the brutal slaying. Their efforts soon focused on a single suspect: 18-year-old Daylon Lewis Rainville of Frierson, Louisiana. As the investigation progressed, an arrest warrant was issued for Rainville, detailing charges of second-degree murder for Guillory's death and aggravated cruelty to animals for the death of the dog. The search for the suspected gunman continued for over a month.
On May 16, 2024, the manhunt for Rainville came to an end. He was apprehended during a traffic stop in Shreveport, Louisiana, a significant distance from the scene of the crime. Following his capture, Rainville was extradited back to St. Landry Parish to face the charges against him. He was subsequently booked into the local jail and held without bond, awaiting legal proceedings for his alleged role in the violent death of Roy Guillory, Jr. Funeral services for Guillory were held on April 20, 2024, at the True Light Baptist Church in Eunice.
