In the winter of 2022, the life of 17-year-old Tyvon Favors, a Black male from Eunice, Louisiana, was tragically cut short. On the night of Friday, January 7th, he was shot and killed on East Laurel Street. The incident marked the beginning of a violent weekend in the city, setting off a chain of events that would lead to more gunfire and multiple arrests.
In the days that followed Favors' death, the narrative shifted to one of retaliation.
His 19-year-old girlfriend, Ray'zne Ivory, and a 15-year-old male companion were accused of carrying out a shooting on Sunday, January 9th, that left 20-year-old Nathanial Freeman seriously injured. Eunice Police characterized this subsequent shooting as an act of retribution for Favors' death. This led to a police pursuit that ended with the suspects' vehicle, which had been reported stolen, crashing into a bayou.
Following the chase, both Ivory and the 15-year-old were taken into custody. Ivory faced a charge of Attempted First Degree Murder, among other charges. The 15-year-old was also charged with Attempted First Degree Murder.
