Dondrick Wilson Sr., 32, a Black man, was killed in the early-morning hours of July 27, 2019, after gunfire erupted at a Marrero apartment complex in the 2800 block of Mt. Kennedy Drive. The 911 center received a report of shots in the area around 1:50 a.m., and as a Jefferson Parish deputy drove through the complex looking for the source of the call, people gathered on a balcony flagged him down and directed him toward the victim.
Authorities said Wilson had been shot multiple times, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
As daylight came, the place where he fell was described in stark, practical terms—an apartment complex near a school, a late-night call, a deputy guided by witnesses—yet the loss itself landed far beyond police procedure. In remembrances that followed, Wilson was remembered as “Deno,” a West Jefferson High School graduate who worked as an asphalt plant operator with Barriere Construction, and as a father whose absence left a hole that family and friends would feel in ordinary moments for years to come.
Investigators continued working the case after the shooting, and later the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office announced an arrest tied to Wilson’s death. Isaac Felicien, a 26-year-old New Orleans man, was booked with second-degree murder, according to the Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Jason Rivarde as reported in local coverage.
