In the late summer of 2019, the life of a young woman and her unborn child were tragically cut short in a burst of violence on a New Orleans East street. Tychelle Ridgely, a 28-year-old female, was identified as the victim of a fatal shooting on the evening of Wednesday, August 21, 2019. The incident, which also claimed the life of her unborn baby, unfolded in the 4900 block of Lonely Oak Drive.
Responding to a call about a shooting, New Orleans police officers arrived to find a
harrowing scene. Ridgely was discovered inside a vehicle, having sustained at least one gunshot wound. Another woman was also found at the scene with a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Tragically, both Tychelle Ridgely and her unborn child, who was to be named Me'Lo Alexander Ridgley, were pronounced dead at the scene, their lives extinguished before they could truly begin together.
The initial investigation by the New Orleans Police Department classified the case as a double homicide, recognizing the loss of both the mother and her unborn child. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office later officially identified the victims.
