In the early hours of a New Orleans morning, a night out celebrating a friend's birthday turned into a tragedy that claimed the life of Raven Marie Francis, a 29-year-old mother of four. She had recently started a new job as a security guard and, according to her sister, was initially hesitant to go out after her shift. The evening took a dark turn after an altercation broke out in the parking lot of a Mid-City bar. Although Francis was reportedly not involved in the dispute, the events that followed would prove fatal.
Following the fight, Francis and four other women were attempting to leave the area in their vehicle. As they drove away, their car was riddled with bullets. The gunfire caused the driver to lose control and crash into a fire hydrant, flipping the vehicle. Raven Marie Francis was struck in the head by a bullet and succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital. One of her sisters sustained a graze wound to the arm, while the other two passengers were injured in the crash. Her family firmly believes the shooting was a premeditated act of violence stemming from the earlier altercation.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of 24-year-old Chante Mark. She was taken into custody at a hotel and subsequently charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Raven Marie Francis. It was later revealed that Mark had been previously arrested for a different murder, though those charges were ultimately dropped by prosecutors. The community and Francis's family mourned the loss of a woman described as a loving mother who was devoted to her children, the youngest of whom was only six months old at the time of her death.
