On an autumn afternoon in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the life of 18-year-old Jarico Selmon was tragically cut short. On October 2, 2019, Selmon was shot in the 4100 block of West Brookstown Drive. After being struck by gunfire, he ran until he collapsed in front of a convenience store on Prescott Road, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Baton Rouge Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide.
Utilizing video surveillance from the area and accounts from eyewitnesses, authorities were able to identify two suspects in connection with the fatal shooting. This led to the apprehension of Tyrone Butler Jr. and, shortly thereafter, the arrest of 19-year-old Reginald Wayne Jones on October 22, 2019.
Both Jones and Butler were charged with second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. Jones, who had a prior record that included firearms charges, was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. His bond was set at $300,000. The investigation pieced together the events of that day, suggesting a deliberate act of violence that ended a young man's life and led to serious charges against the two individuals identified as his assailants.
