Ray Marese Garlins, a 41-year-old male, tragically lost his life on May 15, 2021, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was fatally shot outside a residence on Finchley Drive in east Charlotte around 12:30 a.m. The investigation revealed that Garlins was pronounced dead at the scene due to a gunshot wound.
Following the incident, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department launched an investigation. Detectives identified 21-year-old Darius Emmanuel Platt as a suspect.
Platt, who was on electronic monitoring probation, was found to be in the immediate area of the shooting at the time it occurred. He was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
Additionally, a second suspect, 24-year-old Jaquarius Bryant, was later charged with first-degree murder in connection with Garlins' death. Bryant turned himself in to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and was taken into custody. The investigation remains active, and CMPD continues to seek any additional information related to the case.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the circumstances surrounding Garlins' death and the involvement of suspects who were on probation and electronic monitoring. The community and law enforcement are working together to ensure justice is served for Ray Marese Garlins.
