In the spring of 2021, a violent altercation in Baton Rouge claimed the life of 16-year-old Joseph Antoine III. On the evening of May 23rd, Antoine was inside a black Honda Accord on Sharp Lane when a gun battle erupted. He was gravely wounded during the exchange of fire. Emergency services transported the teenager to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries a few days later.
The incident, which unfolded outside an apartment complex, prompted an investigation by the Baton Rouge Police Department.
Detectives utilized video surveillance and eyewitness accounts to piece together the events of that fatal evening. Their investigation revealed that the gunfire began after a passenger in the rear of the Honda Accord, in which Antoine was present, fired shots at a group of people. In response, individuals from the crowd returned fire as the vehicle passed by them again. This exchange of gunfire ultimately led to Antoine's death. The investigation pointed to three individuals as being involved in the shooting.
Following the investigation, authorities made three arrests in connection with the death of Joseph Antoine III. Eighteen-year-old Jesse Harris was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder. Two other suspects, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old, were also arrested. Due to their ages, their identities were not publicly released, and they were booked into a juvenile detention facility. The 15-year-old faced a charge of second-degree murder, while the 16-year-old was charged with nine counts of attempted second-degree murder.
