In the late morning of October 10, 2022, a burst of violence shattered the daytime calm in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, leading to the tragic death of 17-year-old Dedrick Wagner. The young man was fatally shot around 11:15 a.m. in the 1400 block of Terrace Avenue, outside of the Terrace Grocery store. The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear to investigators who arrived at the scene to find the aftermath of the deadly encounter.
Responding to the incident, Baton Rouge Police
Department's homicide detectives launched an investigation into the shooting death of the teenager. Their efforts led to a significant development in the case just a few days later. On October 14, 2022, a 16-year-old male juvenile was taken into custody in connection with Wagner's death.
The teenage suspect was subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Juvenile Detention Center. He faces charges of second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. While an arrest has been made, authorities have stated that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Dedrick Wagner's death remains ongoing.
