On the afternoon of March 28, 2022, tragedy struck in Baton Rouge when 21-year-old Fredrick Harris was fatally shot. The incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. in the 1800 block of Birch Street. When Baton Rouge Police Officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Harris had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initially, investigators had no motive or suspects in the fatal shooting. The case remained under investigation for a significant period.
However, through their persistent efforts, Homicide detectives eventually identified 31-year-old Joseph Jacobs as a suspect in the killing of Fredrick Harris.
On January 31, 2025, the U.S. Marshal's Task Force apprehended Joseph Jacobs in the 6200 block of Blueberry Street. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Jacobs faces a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the death of Fredrick Harris. Authorities have noted that Jacobs has a history of prior arrests for narcotics and gun-related charges between 2010 and 2022. The investigation into the shooting is still considered ongoing.
