In the Gert Town neighborhood of New Orleans, on the afternoon of June 15, 2020, the life of 18-year-old Messiah Thompson was tragically cut short. An African American male, Thompson was discovered outside a building in the 8300 block of Palm Street at approximately 4:36 p.m., having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The New Orleans Police Department quickly launched a homicide
investigation into the shooting. Detectives began the arduous process of gathering evidence and seeking out any information that could lead to the person or persons responsible for Thompson's death. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office later confirmed through an autopsy that the cause of death was indeed the gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of law enforcement, the case has grown cold, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Messiah Thompson. The investigation remains ongoing, a painful open chapter for his family and the community. In an effort to bring his killer to justice, Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans has become involved, offering a reward of up to $5,000 for any information that leads to an arrest and indictment in the case. They have publicly urged anyone with knowledge of the crime to come forward and assist in solving the senseless act of violence that silenced a young life.
