In the early morning hours of July 16, 2020, 20-year-old Dereial Manning was fatally shot at an apartment complex in New Orleans East. The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. in the 12100 block of the I-10 Service Road. Manning was visiting a friend at the Carmel Spring apartment complex with her two-year-old son, who was present at the time of the shooting.
According to reports, there was a knock at the door, and when Manning answered, two individuals were present, and at least
one of them opened fire. She was shot multiple times and died at the scene.
As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with Manning's murder, and the case remains unsolved. Her mother has made public pleas for justice, expressing the family's desire for the perpetrator to be brought to justice so they can have some closure. In the wake of her death, Dereial Manning's mother filed a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of Manning's son against the owners and operators of the apartment complex and their security contractors.
