A fifty-year-old grandmother, Nicole Williams, had moved away from New Orleans seeking peace after the tragic loss of her son to gun violence the previous year. The pull of family, however, brought her back to the city she once called home to celebrate Mardi Gras with her beloved grandchildren. Her return, meant to be a joyous reunion, ended in a devastating act of violence that echoed the very tragedy she had tried to escape.
