In the late afternoon hours of a Wednesday in New Orleans, the life of 28-year-old Coriana Leggett, an African American woman, was tragically cut short. On June 12, 2024, in the 10800 block of Chef Menteur Highway in New Orleans East, Leggett was found unresponsive in the parking lot of a business. The New Orleans Police Department responded to a call at approximately 3:58 p.m. and discovered her with multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of first responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:21 p.m.
In the initial confusion following the discovery, authorities temporarily misidentified Leggett as a male. However, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office later provided a correct identification, confirming both her name and gender. The investigation into her death began immediately, with detectives canvassing the area for evidence and seeking to understand the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
As the investigation unfolded, the New Orleans Police Department detained an adult female as a person of interest for questioning.
