In the summer of 2023, a domestic dispute in New Orleans' 7th Ward escalated into a tragedy that ended the life of 40-year-old Joycelyn Bland. On the evening of June 2nd, police were called to a home in the 2400 block of Allen Street where they discovered Bland had been shot multiple times.
According to a witness at the scene, Bland and her 26-year-old boyfriend, Tajee Donaldson, had been involved in an argument inside the residence.
The altercation reportedly turned violent when Donaldson allegedly shot Bland three times before fleeing the scene. Bland, a mother of three, succumbed to her injuries at the scene, becoming the ninth woman to be fatally shot in New Orleans in a span of less than two months.
Following an investigation, the New Orleans Police Department identified Tajee Donaldson as the primary suspect in Bland's death. He was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of his girlfriend.
