Essence Peters, 24, a Black/African American woman from New Orleans, was found dead on June 28, 2025, after police were called to a home on the 2000 block of Marigny Street. Officers arrived around 5:09 p.m., where a man told them he had shot his girlfriend and buried her behind the residence. Detectives executed a search warrant and uncovered human remains in the backyard; EMS confirmed the woman was deceased, and family members identified her as Essence Peters, 24.
