Young woman dies in triple homicide On a Tuesday night in New Orleans, the life of 20-year-old Glenquel Emerson was tragically cut short. The African-American female was caught in a violent shootout on October 4, 2016, in the 3700 block of Ulloa Street. Just before 9:30 p.m., what began as a gathering of people erupted into a deadly exchange of gunfire between two groups. When the shooting stopped, five people were struck, and the scene was one of chaos and bloodshed.
Glenquel Emerson was pronounced dead at the scene, a promising life extinguished in a senseless act of violence.
The gunfire that claimed Glenquel's life also resulted in the deaths of two other individuals, 34-year-old Darome Hilton and 22-year-old Bobbie Basquine. Both men were rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to their injuries. Two other victims survived the shooting. The New Orleans Police Department launched an investigation into what they described as a large and complex crime scene, with numerous bullet casings scattered across the street. Investigators explored the possibility that the triple homicide was connected to group or gang activity.
In the days following the shooting, authorities released a surveillance video to the public in hopes of identifying those involved. The footage showed two men running down the street and another male staggering and falling to the ground. Despite this public appeal, and the identification of a person of interest in the weeks that followed, no arrests have been made in the case. The investigation into the deaths of Glenquel Emerson, Darome Hilton, and Bobbie Basquine remains open as their families await justice.
