The investigation into Thibodeaux's murder led to the swift arrest of three teenage suspects: 15-year-old Kevin Nunez, 17-year-old Jerben Albarec, and 19-year-old Joshua Bonifacio. Authorities revealed that the trio was allegedly on a robbery spree in the French Quarter on the night of the incident. Surveillance footage played a crucial role in the case, capturing the moment Nunez ambushed Thibodeaux in her vehicle on St. Peter Street. According to police documents, Bonifacio and Albarec admitted their involvement in the robberies and identified Nunez as the one who shot Thibodeaux.
Initially, all three suspects were indicted on charges of second-degree murder by an Orleans Parish Grand Jury. However, in November 2025, to avoid a trial, they all pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. As a result of the plea agreement, Kevin Nunez and Joshua Bonifacio were each sentenced to 40 years in prison. Jerben Albarec received a 20-year prison sentence.
