In the late summer of 2020, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace of a Baton Rouge apartment complex parking lot, leaving a young man's life tragically cut short. Alonge McClain, a 19-year-old male, was fatally shot on Thursday, August 6, 2020, in what authorities would describe as a chaotic and violent shootout. The incident, which unfolded on La Annie Drive, appeared to be the result of an armed robbery gone wrong.
Police arriving at the scene were met with a confusing tableau,
suggesting a gun battle with potentially numerous participants. In the aftermath of the violence, McClain was found to be the sole fatality. Another young man, 18-year-old Lazarius Johnson, was also struck by gunfire during the exchange. He was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.
The investigation into McClain's death swiftly pointed toward Johnson as a primary suspect. Following his release from medical care, Lazarius Johnson was taken into custody and booked into jail.
