In the evening hours of June 16, 2022, tragedy struck in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, when 50-year-old Jeffery Paul Follins was fatally shot at his residence on Thomas H. Delpit Drive. The Baton Rouge Police Department responded to a call around 8:20 p.m. and discovered Follins suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite emergency medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The investigation into the homicide led authorities to a suspect.
Five days after the shooting, on June 21, 2022, Baton Rouge Police Homicide Detectives arrested 63-year-old Donald Stevenson in connection with Follins's death. Stevenson was subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a charge of second-degree murder.
While an arrest has been made, the motive behind the fatal shooting of Jeffery Follins remains unclear as the investigation continues. The community was left to mourn the loss of Follins, who was remembered by loved ones as a man of few words with a big smile. Funeral services were held to honor his memory, and he was laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park in Baton Rouge.
