On August 22, 2022, in the remote village of Platinum, Alaska, 59-year-old Vincent Beaver was fatally shot during a violent incident that also resulted in the death of 93-year-old Thomas "Tom" Johnson and injuries to a third individual. The assailant, identified as 46-year-old John Smith, entered Johnson's residence armed with a firearm, initiating a confrontation that led to the shootings.
