Khalil Ausbia "Fresh" Allen, an 18-year-old male, was a senior at Helen Cox High School and a lifelong resident of New Orleans, Louisiana. Known affectionately as "Fresh" to his loved ones, he was an active young man, involved in both football at Bodenger Playground and for the Crescent City Saints, as well as track and field with the Louisiana Storm.
His life was cut short on Thursday, September 10, 2020.
On that day, Allen was one of three young men who were fatally shot in the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans. The incident occurred as a group of people were leaving a home where they had been recording music in a studio. An exchange of gunfire erupted, resulting in the deaths of Allen, 17-year-old Frank Bedell, and 19-year-old Haushon Miller.
In the aftermath of the triple homicide, New Orleans police arrested a 15-year-old male who was seen fleeing the scene. The unidentified teenager was subsequently charged with three counts of second-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Allen, Bedell, and Miller. He was also accused of attempting to kill a man and a woman outside a nearby home. At the time of the teenager's arrest, another individual, 19-year-old Maurice Lumar, was taken into custody on weapons charges but was not named as a suspect in the murders.
