In the fall of 2020, a violent encounter in a mall parking lot tragically cut short the life of 16-year-old Ivan Wheeler. The male teenager was fatally shot on October 11, 2020, outside the Oakwood Center in Terrytown, a suburb of Gretna, Louisiana. The incident, which also left a 29-year-old man critically injured, unfolded after a planned meeting escalated into a violent fight that concluded with gunfire.
In the days following the shooting, Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office
investigators moved swiftly, identifying and apprehending two suspects in connection with the deadly altercation. Trevon Gibson, 20, and Darrell Douglas, 18, were taken into custody and subsequently booked on charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. Their arrests marked a significant development in the investigation into Wheeler's death and the severe injuries sustained by his companion.
The case took another dark turn when a third individual, believed to be an accomplice of Gibson and Douglas, was found deceased. The body of 21-year-old David Frazier was discovered burned near a set of train tracks in the Florida neighborhood on October 13, just two days after the mall shooting. The coroner later determined that Frazier had died from multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators believe Frazier was with Gibson and Douglas when they went to meet Wheeler and the other man at the mall. In a further development, Darrell Douglas was also arrested in connection with Frazier's death.
