In a tragic incident on March 7, 2023, nine-year-old Sirari Iyair Clark, a Black/African American male, was fatally wounded inside his Las Vegas, Nevada, apartment. At the time of the shooting, Sirari was sitting on the couch with his six-year-old brother, Honor Tate, watching cartoons. A single bullet penetrated the wall of their apartment and struck Sirari in the head.
The same bullet fragmented, also injuring his younger brother in the leg.
The family had only recently moved to the apartment complex on Boulder Highway. Following the sound of a gunshot, family members rushed into the room to find the devastating scene. Sirari was rushed to Sunrise Hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. His younger brother, Honor, survived the physical injuries but was left deeply traumatized by the event.
The investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department quickly led to a suspect in a neighboring apartment. Authorities arrested 41-year-old Eliazar Quintero in connection with the fatal shooting. It was reported that Quintero, a convicted felon who was prohibited from possessing a firearm, had been showing off with a gun and recklessly fired it. Police reports indicated that Quintero made a reference to the movie "Scarface" before the incident.
In the aftermath, Quintero fled the scene with multiple weapons. He was later apprehended and faced multiple charges. In June, Eliazar Quintero pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment. Subsequently, a judge sentenced him to a term of six to fifteen years in prison for his role in the death of Sirari Clark and the injury of his brother. Quintero was already incarcerated for other offenses at the time of his sentencing for the shooting.
