On the morning of May 25, 2015, a violent encounter in Las Vegas, Nevada, claimed the life of 31-year-old Rahmond Suri, a Black / African American male. The fatal incident unfolded just after 7 a.m. outside an apartment complex located in the 500 block of North Lamb Boulevard, near Bonanza Road. First responders arrived at the scene to find Suri suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the location.
The Clark County coroner's office would later officially rule his death a homicide.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a suspect. Several witnesses at the scene identified 29-year-old Derick McDonald, who was also known by the nicknames “Jhonny” and “Too Tall,” as the individual who shot Suri. According to reports, McDonald fled the area immediately following the shooting, driving away in a white Dodge Durango. This information prompted a search by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Less than a month after the fatal shooting, an arrest was made in connection with Rahmond Suri's death. On Sunday, June 21, 2015, police took Derick McDonald into custody. The arrest was the result of the investigation, which relied heavily on the accounts of multiple witnesses who were present at the time of the incident. McDonald was subsequently booked into jail, facing charges related to the shooting death of Rahmond Suri.
