In the late afternoon of May 9, 2021, a dispute in a northeast Las Vegas home tragically escalated, ending the life of 37-year-old Raymie Henderson Jr., a Black / African American male. Responding to reports of a shooting at approximately 5:40 p.m., police arrived at a residence on the 3200 block of Lava Avenue, near Owens Avenue and Mojave Road, to find Henderson inside suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Clark County coroner's office later confirmed his death was a homicide due to gunshot wounds.
Investigations revealed a heated argument had taken place via text message between Henderson and his girlfriend, who lived at the home with her daughter. The disagreement was reportedly over Henderson's friends being at the residence and fighting. Henderson subsequently returned to the home, accompanied by a man later identified by police as 23-year-old Tiderrick Thompson. While Henderson's girlfriend was in her bedroom, she heard the sound of gunshots.
Just ten days after the fatal shooting, on May 19, 2021, law enforcement announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with Henderson's death. Tiderrick Thompson was taken into custody and booked at the Clark County Detention Center on suspicion of murder. The investigation suggested that a physical altercation, described as a "tussling" between Thompson and another man, occurred around the time of the gunshots.
