The incident occurred at the Love's Travel Stop located at 12501 Apex Great Basin Way. Hopkins was shot during a dispute that escalated into a violent confrontation.
The dispute involved Mark A. Doocy, a 60-year-old man from Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. Doocy had been performing odd jobs for Hopkins and his wife for several weeks prior to the incident.
