On that evening, Valin and a female companion were seated in a 1983 Ford Ranger pickup truck parked behind the Bungalow Bar on Boulder Highway. An unknown assailant approached the vehicle and fired several shots through the rear window.
Valin was struck multiple times and died at the scene.
His female companion was also wounded, having been shot once in the head, but she survived the attack. Unfortunately, she was unable to provide investigators with any information about the suspect. The shooting remains unsolved, and there have been no arrests made in the case.
Further investigation by detectives revealed that Valin and his companion had been involved in an altercation inside the Bungalow Bar shortly before the shooting. It was also discovered that a separate, earlier altercation involving the couple had taken place at Lucille's Lucky Seven lounge, located a short distance from the Bungalow Bar. Despite these leads, no witnesses to the actual shooting have ever come forward.
