On the evening of January 25, 2021, Shawn Benjamin Brock, a 46-year-old African American man, was driving in New Orleans, Louisiana, full of promise and on the cusp of a new chapter in his life. A graduate of Sarah T. Reed High School's class of 1992, he was a loving father to his daughter, Rayven Roberts. Known for his kind and thoughtful nature, Shawn had found his calling as a licensed professional Master Barber at Toya's Xperience Studio, where he built strong relationships with his
clients. He had recently secured a significant loan to open his own barbershop, a dream that was tragically cut short.
That night, at approximately 9:30 pm, while driving near The Willows Apartments at Crowder Boulevard and the I-10 Interstate, Shawn was shot. Despite being gravely wounded, he managed to continue driving for about a mile before his vehicle crashed in the 7000 block of Salem Drive. When first responders arrived, they discovered that Shawn had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. His car bore the evidence of the violent encounter, with a shattered back windshield and several bullet holes along its side. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The investigation into Shawn Brock's murder has remained a difficult one for the New Orleans Police Department. As of early 2024, no arrests have been made in connection with his killing, and there have been few leads for detectives to follow. In an effort to bring justice for Shawn and his family, Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans has extended a reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death. His family continues to grieve his loss and advocate for answers in his unsolved case.
