In the summer of 2021, a 33-year-old man named Warren Smith Jr. was killed in a shooting in New Orleans. The incident that claimed his life occurred on Friday, July 16, 2021, in the city's 7th Ward.

Born on April 15, 1988, Smith was a native of New Orleans. He had attended George Washington Carver Sr. High School before the disruption of Hurricane Katrina. Described as a sweet and humble young man, he was known to his friends by the nickname 'Squally'.
