On the evening of April 6, 2022, Shaquille Michael Cooper, a 29-year-old African American man, was in the St. Roch neighborhood of New Orleans. At approximately 8:36 p.m., in the 1800 block of Music Street, the sound of gunfire shattered the night. Cooper was struck by multiple bullets, sustaining fatal injuries. Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene and quickly transported him to a nearby hospital in an effort to save his life.
Despite their efforts, he succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead within half an hour of the shooting.
A lifelong resident of New Orleans and a graduate of Penn Foster High School, Shaquille Cooper was remembered by his family, including his mother and two brothers. His loved ones gathered to honor his memory at a funeral service on April 16, 2022, at the Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church.
The New Orleans Police Department classified the incident as a homicide and launched an investigation into the shooting. However, details regarding a motive for the attack or any potential suspects have not been released to the public. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Shaquille Cooper, and the investigation remains active. Authorities have encouraged anyone with information about the case to come forward to assist in bringing those responsible to justice.
