In the late summer evening of August 16, 2021, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the life of 26-year-old Jordan Jenkins was tragically cut short. The shooting incident unfolded at approximately 8:55 p.m. in the 7400 block of Simplex Street. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they discovered Jenkins, a resident of Cadillac Street, suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another male victim was also wounded in the attack and was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, which he was expected to survive. The motive behind the shooting was not immediately clear to investigators.
For over a month, the investigation into Jenkins's death continued. Then, on September 28, 2021, a significant development occurred in the case. With the assistance of the U.S. Marshals, Baton Rouge Police Homicide Detectives apprehended two suspects in connection with the deadly shooting. The individuals taken into custody were identified as 32-year-old Marvin Payne and 29-year-old Jeremy Payne. Both men were subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Following their arrests, Marvin and Jeremy Payne faced a litany of serious charges. These included second-degree murder for their alleged role in the death of Jordan Jenkins. Additionally, they were charged with attempted second-degree murder related to the other victim who survived the shooting. The charges also included illegal use of a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting was reported to be ongoing as authorities continued to piece together the events that led to the tragic loss of a young man's life.
