On a Friday afternoon in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the life of 18-year-old Idrissa Ndongo was tragically cut short. On January 26, 2024, at approximately 1:13 p.m., gunfire erupted in front of an apartment complex located at 11631 Sherwood Hollow Court. Idrissa Ndongo, a male, sustained fatal gunshot injuries and died at the scene. Another young man, 19-year-old Trevor Courtney, was also killed in the shooting.
A third individual was wounded in the incident and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The deadly shooting marked a violent culmination of recent disturbances at the apartment complex. In the two days leading up to the incident, police had been called to the location on two separate occasions. Early on the preceding Thursday morning, officers discovered two men with gunshot wounds to the head; they were hospitalized in critical condition. Then, just hours before Ndongo and Courtney were killed, police responded to a 'shots fired' call at the same complex, though no injuries were reported at that time.
In the aftermath of the double homicide, the Baton Rouge Police Department's Homicide Detectives launched an investigation.
