In the winter of 2017, a dispute outside a business on North 23rd Street in Baton Rouge irrevocably altered the course of several lives. On January 20th, 35-year-old Devin Johnese was involved in an argument that tragically escalated. In the heat of the moment, a gun was drawn, and Johnese was shot multiple times. He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, where he clung to life for several days.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Devin Johnese, a male, succumbed to his injuries on a Sunday, leaving a community to grapple with the senseless violence that claimed his life.
The Baton Rouge Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. Believing the incident stemmed from the initial altercation, detectives worked to identify the person responsible for Johnese's death. Their efforts led them to name 27-year-old Allen Turner as the primary suspect. A search for Turner ensued, culminating in his apprehension by the State Police Fugitive Task Force in conjunction with the Baton Rouge Police Department. Turner was subsequently arrested and faced charges for his alleged role in the fatal shooting of Devin Johnese.
