In the late morning hours of a Wednesday in December 2022, the life of 37-year-old Sedrick Lewis was tragically cut short in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was found shot to death outside the FairBridge Inn on Boardwalk Drive, just off the bustling Sherwood Forest Boulevard. The male victim's demise was the culmination of a heated dispute that spiraled into violence.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the incident began with an argument between Lewis and another man, identified
as 27-year-old Maurice Mallory. The two were seen on surveillance footage standing under the motel's breezeway. Witnesses later told investigators that the disagreement stemmed from allegations of stolen drugs. The verbal confrontation quickly escalated into a physical altercation.
During the fight, Mallory reportedly dropped a handgun. Lewis, at some point, walked away from the immediate area. However, upon his return, he saw that Mallory had retrieved the firearm. Realizing the imminent danger, Lewis turned and attempted to flee. It was at this moment that he was shot in the back. Mallory then fled the scene, leaving Lewis fatally wounded.
Following the shooting, an arrest warrant was issued for Maurice Mallory. Two days later, on a Friday, he was located and apprehended by the U.S. Marshal's Task Force. Mallory was subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He faces serious charges, including second-degree murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and illegal use of a weapon.
