Alton Bertrell Sterling, a 37-year-old black man, was fatally shot by two Baton Rouge Police Department officers, Blane Salamoni and Howie Lake II, on July 5, 2016. The incident occurred outside the Triple S Food Mart in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where Sterling was selling CDs. The officers were responding to a report that Sterling had threatened someone with a gun.
