In the fading daylight of a Monday evening in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, tragedy struck a young life. Jeremiah Lowery, a 17-year-old Black male, was riding as a passenger in a vehicle traveling eastbound in the 3400 block of Dalton Street on March 15, 2021. The normalcy of the evening was shattered when an unknown assailant opened fire on the vehicle, fatally wounding the teenager.
Despite the immediate efforts of those with him to rush him to a local hospital in a personal vehicle,
Jeremiah succumbed to his injuries. The two other occupants of the car, the driver and another passenger, were left physically unharmed but undoubtedly shaken by the sudden violence that claimed their companion's life. The Baton Rouge Police Department was notified and quickly began a homicide investigation into the shooting, which occurred around 7:34 p.m.
In the days that followed, authorities appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the person or persons responsible for Jeremiah's death. The Violent Crimes Unit and Crime Stoppers became the points of contact for any potential leads. However, despite these efforts, no arrests have been publicly announced in connection with the case. The suspect or suspects remain at large, and the motive for the shooting has not been released. The investigation into the untimely death of Jeremiah Lowery is ongoing, leaving a family and a community awaiting answers and seeking justice for a life cut short.
