On an April afternoon in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a dispute between two friends escalated into a fatal exchange of gunfire, leaving both men dead. The incident, which occurred on April 18, 2023, claimed the life of 21-year-old Ray Griffin, an aspiring rapper known locally as Teflon Webbie. The shooting unfolded on Denova Street, near Greenwell Street, following a heated argument between Griffin and 29-year-old Steven Brown.
According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office and witness
accounts, the argument between Griffin and Brown, who were described by neighbors as good friends who often spent time together, intensified to the point where both men drew handguns and fired at each other. Both Griffin and Brown sustained gunshot wounds during the altercation. After the shooting, both men fled the scene and were taken to a hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries. Both men were known to have previous involvement with law enforcement and were associated with a local gang.
Further investigation by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, including a review of security camera footage from a nearby residence, revealed the presence of a third individual, 21-year-old Tyrece Rollins. The footage showed Rollins armed with a handgun and present during the argument. Investigators observed Rollins entering and exiting the residence multiple times during the confrontation. After the initial shots were fired between Griffin and Brown, Rollins was seen firing a handgun several times at one of the victims. He was then seen discarding the weapon and placing an AR-style handgun in one of the victim's vehicles.
Based on the evidence gathered from the security footage, Tyrece Rollins was identified and subsequently arrested. He was booked on the charge of principal to second-degree murder for his role in the incident that led to the deaths of Ray Griffin and Steven Brown.
