A lifelong resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, Norbert Housey, a 28-year-old male, was a man known for his passion for sports, especially football and basketball, which he actively played during his time at Walter L. Cohen Senior High School. His life was abruptly cut short on the night of October 20, 2021, leaving a void in the hearts of his family and friends.
On that fateful Wednesday evening, Housey was a passenger in a car traveling eastbound on Interstate 10.
As the vehicle neared the Crowder Boulevard exit in New Orleans East, the sound of gunfire shattered the night, and a bullet struck Housey. The event took a more chaotic turn when the vehicle he was in became involved in a three-car crash approximately two miles away from the initial shooting scene, at the intersection of I-10 west and Morrison Boulevard. First responders discovered the former high school athlete at the crash site. He was rushed to University Medical Center in a desperate attempt to save his life, but tragically, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
In the wake of his death, Norbert Housey was remembered by a loving family, including his parents, Charmaine Housey and Norbert Matthews, and his siblings, Liryc Housey, Norman Lee, and Norbrell Arnolie. He also left behind a devoted friend, LaBrena Williams, and a host of other relatives and friends who cherished him. His funeral service was held at Gentilly Baptist Church, and he was laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Despite the violent nature of his death, information regarding the investigation into the shooting has been scarce. To date, there have been no reports of any arrests made in connection with the murder of Norbert Housey. The New Orleans Police Department has not publicly identified any suspects, and the case remains unsolved, leaving his family and community still waiting for answers and justice.
