On a Wednesday morning in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the life of 25-year-old Brandon Williams, an African American male, was cut short by violence. On December 8, 2021, at approximately 9:25 a.m., a verbal dispute on Lobdell Boulevard escalated into a fatal shooting. When Baton Rouge Police arrived at the scene, the suspect had already fled, and Williams was found deceased.
The investigation into the death of Brandon Williams led authorities to identify a suspect.
On January 18, 2022, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Baton Rouge Police Detectives apprehended 26-year-old Jecody Spann of Baker, Louisiana. Spann was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon in connection with the shooting that claimed Williams's life.
The legal process that followed the arrest of Jecody Spann unfolded over the next couple of years. In March 2024, a jury found Spann guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter. Two months later, on May 7, 2024, Jecody Spann was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in the death of Brandon Williams.
