In the brazen light of day, on February 25, 2022, the life of 19-year-old Clifton Lindsey was violently cut short in a hail of bullets. He was a Black male. The deadly encounter unfolded near the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge, at the intersection of Bluebonnet Boulevard and Picardy Avenue. Lindsey was a passenger in a vehicle that was relentlessly targeted in a drive-by shooting.
The car was riddled with over 70 bullets, a testament to the brutal intensity of the attack.
Lindsey was not the only fatality that afternoon. Alongside him, 18-year-old Donte Dorsey, a burgeoning local rapper known as TrueBleeda, was also killed. Two other young men in the vehicle, aged 19 and 21, were wounded but survived the onslaught. The shooting was not a random act of violence; authorities quickly assessed it as a targeted and meticulously planned assault, likely stemming from an ongoing feud between rival groups.
The investigation into the double homicide led to the arrest of Demetriyon Grim, then 21 years old. Investigators linked him to the crime through DNA evidence found in an abandoned vehicle used by the assailants. Grim was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, and illegal use of a weapon. However, the path to justice took a turn when a grand jury declined to indict him, leading to his release in August 2022. Despite this setback, the District Attorney's office indicated a possibility of revisiting the case and pursuing charges in the future.
The violent death of Clifton Lindsey was a tragic chapter in a series of unfortunate events that plagued his family. Just a few months prior, in November 2021, his 16-year-old sister, Tremiyah Lindsey, was killed in a separate shooting incident. His mother was also wounded in that same event. Compounding the family's turmoil, his brother, Tremayne Lindsey, has faced numerous charges for violent crimes, including attempted murder.
