In the evening hours of May 13, 2020, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a young Black man named Trent Jones, who was 18 years old, was shot and killed. The incident unfolded on San Juan Drive, where Jones had arranged to meet with another individual to conduct a firearm transaction.
During the meeting, a dispute broke out between Jones and 17-year-old Daylon Banks. The argument escalated, and Banks allegedly shot Jones.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they found Jones with gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators utilized eyewitness accounts, video surveillance, and fingerprint analysis to identify Banks as the suspect. He was subsequently arrested and faced charges of first-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and armed robbery. At the time of the incident, it was reported that Trent Jones was wearing an ankle monitor as a condition of his release on bond for a prior arrest in Iberville Parish on two counts of attempted second-degree murder.
