A quiet street in Baker, a city within East Baton Rouge Parish, became the scene of a grim discovery on a May afternoon in 2021. Inside a home on Richmond Street, sheriff's deputies found the bodies of 26-year-old Brandon Parker and 32-year-old Christin Parker, both of whom had been fatally shot. The initial 911 call that alerted authorities had disconnected, adding a layer of mystery to the unfolding tragedy.
The investigation quickly identified a suspect, Eric Smith, who was described
as Christin Parker's ex-boyfriend. What followed was a multi-state pursuit as law enforcement tracked Smith from Louisiana into Mississippi. The chase, involving numerous agencies, came to a dramatic and violent end on Interstate 10 in Biloxi. After his vehicle was disabled with spike strips and rolled into the median, Smith emerged and was shot and killed by police.
An eyewitness in Baker recounted a harrowing scene, describing how one of the victim's daughters ran to a neighbor for help, exclaiming that her mother had been shot. The neighbor entered the home and found a lifeless Christin Parker, noting the significant amount of blood from a head wound. The violent spree that began with the double murder in Baker ultimately left four people dead, including the suspect and a young child who was with him during the pursuit.
