On a tragic day in Lafayette, Louisiana, 43-year-old Kawanna Felix, an African American woman, became a victim in a devastating series of events that unfolded on October 4, 2022. A mother of five, she was known for her vibrant and generous personality. Her life was cut short by her estranged husband, 36-year-old Andres Jamal Felix, who was responsible for a shooting spree that claimed two other lives before he ultimately took his own.
The couple had been separated for some time prior to the incident.
The violence began on a Tuesday morning when Andres Felix shot and killed 29-year-old Ross Chaisson in Lafayette. Following this initial act, he continued his rampage, traveling to Duson where he murdered 25-year-old Paige Lewis, a mother of three who was known to him. The relationship between Lewis and Andres Felix was not publicly clear at the time. His violent spree concluded back in Lafayette where he fatally shot Kawanna.
Law enforcement agencies from Lafayette Police Department, Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, and the Duson Police Department were involved in the multiparish investigation. Authorities tracked Andres Felix's vehicle to Iberville Parish where it was found abandoned. He had stolen another vehicle to make his way back to Lafayette Parish to commit the subsequent murders. After killing his estranged wife, Andres Felix was located at a relative's home where he had taken his own life.
Andres Jamal Felix had a documented history of criminal behavior, which included charges for domestic abuse, drug offenses, and attempted murder. His history of violence towards Kawanna was also reportedly documented.
